As parents, we're called to raise our children to love and follow Jesus. This means preparing them to be missionaries in their own right, ready to share the Gospel wherever God leads them.
What Does It Mean to Send Our Children as Missionaries?
Sending our children means equipping them with three essential elements:
A missional mandate
Eternal provision
A heavenly reward
How Do We Give Our Children a Missional Mandate?
The Great Commission applies not just to us, but to our children as well. We must help them:
See the world through a Gospel lens
Recognize brokenness as opportunities for sharing Christ
Understand that problems in the world stem from a lack of Gospel application
Learn to pray for the lost and for more laborers in God's harvest
What Does Eternal Provision Look Like?
God provides everything needed for His mission through:
Prayer and Bible study
Church community
Daily provision as we step out in faith
The disciplines of our faith
How Do We Help Our Children Focus on Heavenly Rewards?
Success isn't measured by worldly achievements but by:
Faithfulness to God
Growing in knowledge of His Word
Developing a prayer life
Being part of a thriving church community
Loving Jesus more deeply
Life Application
This week, implement these practical steps:
Pray for non-believers by name during family meals
Actively celebrate God's provision in your family
Recognize and praise faithfulness to God in your children
Questions to Consider:
How am I modeling missionary living for my children?
Do my prayers focus more on comfort or on God's kingdom work?
Am I celebrating spiritual growth as much as worldly achievements in my children?
Remember: Success is faithfulness to God. Our greatest joy should be that our names - and our children's names - are written in heaven through faith in Jesus Christ.
