Every day we give our lives over to something - whether consciously or unconsciously. The critical question is: will we live for Christ, whose grace alone can save, or for ourselves and this world which can never fully satisfy?
Why Do We Seek Signs Instead of the Savior?
The Pharisees constantly sought signs from Jesus, despite Him already performing 18 miracles. They missed that Jesus Himself was the ultimate sign they were seeking. This spiritual blindness can affect us too - searching for proof of God while missing His presence right before us.
What Causes Spiritual Blindness?
Spiritual blindness occurs when our hearts become so hardened that we:
Reduce our understanding of God to mere signs and wonders
Demand proof before believing
Miss seeing Jesus himself while searching for evidence
Eventually lose faith altogether
How Do We Guard Against Spiritual Blindness?
When doubt creeps in, look back at what Jesus has already done. His work and Word are sufficient. Scripture confirms this:
"My grace is sufficient for you" (2 Corinthians 12)
"I am the Alpha and Omega" (Revelation 1:8)
"I am the bread of life" (John 6:35)
What Are the Dangers of Worldly Success?
Jesus warned about two types of "leaven" that can distract us:
The leaven of the Pharisees - focusing on religious works and legalism
The leaven of Herod - pursuing worldly achievements over Christ
How Do We Maintain Kingdom Focus?
To maintain proper kingdom focus:
Read your Bible regularly, asking:
What does this say about God?
What does it say about me?
How should I respond?
Talk about God's work in your life
Identify and remove distractions that take focus from Jesus
Life Application
This week, challenge yourself to:
Identify the "leaven" in your life - what distracts you from focusing on Jesus?
Take time daily to remember how Jesus has shown up in your past
Share your story of God's faithfulness with someone else
Ask yourself:
What am I currently living for?
Where do I look for validation and satisfaction?
Is Jesus truly enough for me in every circumstance?
Remember: Jesus is not just enough - He is more than enough. His grace is sufficient, His promises are true, and His living water alone can satisfy our deepest thirst.
